There is an hour, and most platforms know it well, when usage of this kind of product climbs.
It is late somewhere after midnight. People are not at their most resourced then.
The day's defences are down, and whatever a person carries about closeness and loneliness is closest to the surface.
Around 22% of sessions on Wouch happen in that window.
We watch it carefully, because what a product chooses to do in that hour is one of the truest statements of what it is for.
The engagement-optimised version of this moment is obvious and lucrative: this is exactly when a nudge, a new match, a notification would convert best, because the person is least able to decline it.
We do the opposite, and we built the platform specifically to make the opposite possible. Nothing escalates at 1 a.m. No fresh match is dangled.
The pacing does not quicken because the hour is profitable. If anything surfaces that reads as distress, the path is toward our crisis resources and human support, not deeper into the product.
We call it the 1 a.m. test, internally. Any feature we consider gets asked the question: what does this do to a person who opens it alone, at the worst hour, on the worst night?
If the honest answer is it would keep them here, the feature does not ship. This month saw 14 routings, all closed within the standard window.
